“I took my productivity to a new level, making the best project calculations ever!”
During our Workation in the Maldives, I, Aad der Vort, as a 51-year-old entrepreneur in the piping industry with SPS Solutions, had an extraordinary experience together with my wife — which was prepared to perfection by theWorkationers.
Our motivation for this Workation was twofold: my wife wanted to discover how she could contribute to the company as head of administration and HRM, while I had to carry out important project calculations for some American prospects in the European biogas industry.
The decision to go on a luxury Workation brought many advantages. On the plus side, I took my productivity to a new level, resulting in my best project estimates yet. Moreover, the Workation brought us closer together as a couple and as entrepreneurs. The two organised workshops with a specialist in family businesses gave us a lot of insight into how we could best shape this together. (By the way, we still work together with great success...😉).
On the other hand, it was sometimes difficult to draw the line between work and relaxation in this beautiful environment, which led to occasional overtime.
A typical day in the Maldives began with waking up in our luxury beach villa, where we enjoyed breakfast outside overlooking the azure ocean. After that delicious breakfast, we enjoyed swimming and snorkelling almost every day at the breathtaking Banana Reef, where an incredibly impressive tropical ocean life with the most beautiful fish and coral welcomed us every time.
In the afternoon, we worked or sometimes we took a relaxing boat trip to dive and explore the wonders of the deep sea.
We spent the evenings with wonderfully prepared romantic dinners at sunset and meetings with other entrepreneurial couples around campfires and local music on the beach. We still have very nice contact with one of these couples.
This Workation not only led to my wife's well-considered choice to work 32 hours a week as Head of HR and Administration of our current family business, but has also brought us closer together as entrepreneurs and has permanently taken our work to a higher level.
From now on, I always do important project calculations in my 'own Workation chalet' at home. Since the Workation, I have not once lost special projects to competitors.
